8 is an award-winning short film by Serbian director Aćim Vasić, centered around two soliders in a setting resembling something like a Siberian forest. One is a downed pilot, the other a soldier from the opposing side who takes the stricken pilot captive. The story follows the two men in what ultimately becomes a game of wits, and a guessing game for the audience. Although the subject matter appears anything but light-hearted, and the film certainly has a brutal gravity to it, it isn’t without humour. Produced by Swiss production company Turbulence Films, 8 won best short at the 2010 Monfilmfest in Italy, and has screened at many film festivals and received many nominations.
Writer & Director – Shae-Lee Shackleford
Lucas, played by actor Sam Mac, is chronically addicted to social media. Facebooking is a permanent fixture in his life – as we see, status updating is his raison d’etre, appearing around him in bubbles like augmented reality – a nice CGI touch. When he awkwardly meets a girl in a bar (Leila, played by Shae-Lee Shackleford) who against all expectations actually likes him, the ensuing relationship shows us just how deep his obsession for online validation runs.
“The Anti-Social Network was written, directed and produced by Shae-Lee Shackleford. She created the film to be a humorous observation of the social media driven world we live in. The film is aimed to ‘poke’ fun at is the obsession we have with online interaction, sometimes to the detriment of our real everyday lives and relationships.”
Also starring Matt Doran and Natarsha Belling.
Soundtrack by the Flight Facilities, Art vs Science, Mitzi and Justice Crew.

A solitary office worker apparently working after hours, rings around his eyes, exhausted-looking, has a problem with the photocopier. He then discovers he’s somehow created a portal to another dimension – a portal which can penetrate physical solid mass. Realising the possibilities of this new discovery, he starts to think of nefarious uses for the ‘black hole’, and is overtaken by greed, with unfortunate consequences….
Created by Mack Carruthers.
A nicely animated short about a snowman who appears to have stumbled upon a bounteous find. He can’t believe his luck… but this cute animation has a surprisingly dark ending!
